The Choice is Yours
Root of Aging & Disease
As years advance in our life, we focus more and more on our health. Could it be because as we age, our health deteriorates, and we treasure it more for what we now lack?
Scientists agree poor metabolic health is the root of aging and disease. Check out this list featuring hot topics like Cancer, Alzheimer's, Obesity, Diabetes, and Mental Illness:
“Emerging evidence indicates that impaired cellular energy metabolism is the defining characteristic of nearly all cancers regardless of cellular or tissue origin.” 1
A quick search on PubMed.gov returns studies about Alzheimer’s as a Metabolic Disease.
“40% of Americans are obese, 72% of adults over 20 are overweight, and for the first time in decades, life expectancy is falling due to chronic illness.” 2
“The findings from our approach suggest with high predictive accuracy that by 2030 nearly 1 in 2 adults will have obesity.” 3
11.3% of the population has been diagnosed with Diabetes, and 38% are considered prediabetic. That means that 1 in 2 adults is in a diabetic phase! And guess what? Diabetes is a metabolic disorder! 4
New science indicates that mental disorders are metabolic disorders of the brain. “When there are problems with metabolism, there will be problems in the way cells function. I argue that metabolic dysfunction in brain cells can explain all the symptoms of mental illness.” 5
You may experience different traffic jams in different places in your body, but the underlying cause is the same! It’s all about metabolic health.
That’s good news!
When the underlying cause is the same, we can serve many purposes through a similar “root cause” solution. Now, I’m not here to talk about disease but I am here to show you what happens if you disregard the importance of nutrition and metabolic health!
Metabolic Health Basics
When it comes to metabolic health, it’s surprising how much is involved! There are so many factors—food choices, gut health, exercise, sleep, stress, mental health, and age—that shape our current [metabolic] health priorities:
Cognitive Performance
Cardiovascular & Cellular health
Digestive and gut health
Emotional, Stress and Hormones
Energy production
Immune and respiratory health
Joint and structural health
Weight
Restful sleep
Skin, Hair, and Nails

Declining Health Span
More Americans are diagnosed with chronic, life-impacting health problems at earlier ages than in the past. This results in less than optimal health for larger portions of their overall lives.
According to the Great American Health Association, a person can expect to live 66 years in relatively good health free of chronic disease and disabilities of aging. With the average life span of US adults at 79 years, that results in a whopping 13-year gap!
Why are these the health stories of our time!? It is a faulty approach focusing on symptom management. It’s time to address the root cause and build a better foundation to live younger (and healthier) longer with a nutritious diet and healthier lifestyle choices.
Action Item: The choice(s) you make today will greatly impact your future. What’s the one thing you will do differently to address your top three priorities?
The Bigger Question
We all want to be healthier, but somehow it can be elusive. Elusive health can be a factor of the wrong end goal. A slight shift in mindfulness can help!
What is your current situation preventing you from doing?
ex//Pain prevents me from being active. When I am in less pain, I can start riding my bike again. The goal is the desire to ride your bike; the pain is the obstacle.
Action Item: Once you enjoy sustained metabolic health, what will you now choose to do with your life?
In a recent email from Dr. Zach Bush, he challenged his readers to reflect more deeply on WHY they want to be healthy.
“Many of us think of our children or our partner or our job as our why, but within each of us lies a reality outside the context of our roles and relationships. If we limit ourselves to the role of employee, boss, parent, child, or grandparent, we are limiting our potential to fulfill our highest expression of self and experience our deepest why. You're so much greater than the summation of your roles and relationships — you're the whole You…Take this moment to remember you are a child, here to re-parent who you are into the fullest expression this life has ever seen.”
Action Item: Invest the time and resources to live your best life right now by committing to a more robust personal self-care routine! There’s a cost for waiting! Get started today!
