Natural Solutions Mindset
I’ve been using essential oils for almost 13 years now and it's remarkable how drastically my life has changed…for the better. I live and love a natural solutions lifestyle, using Certified Pure, Tested Grade ® essential oils to promote all sorts of health and wellness benefits. As I continued to use essential oils and witness amazing outcomes over these years, I found I experienced a shift in mindset too.
One of the first shifts in mindset was to dispel the “one-to-one” concept prevalent in modern times…i.e., one solution is generally only good to relieve one ailment. The wide range of chemical constituents in each essential oil provides robust and varied benefits, quite in contrast to the “one-to-one” model to which I had been accustomed.
Terri’s Tip: Resist the temptation to think your Lavender essential oil is only good for helping you calm down and sleep better. In fact, Lavender has so many benefits, it is often called the Swiss Army Knife of oils.
As we expand our mindsets to see the many possibilities offered by each different essential oil, we enjoy their many side benefits (not side effects).
Another shift in mindset was to change how I interacted with these “tools”. I learned that using a small amount more frequently throughout the day provided the sustained benefits I was seeking. I had to shed my habit of “one and done” and even find ways to remind myself to open the cap and reapply as needed.
Finally, for best results, I learned that usage and application must be consistent. It’s like going to a gym or sticking to a diet; results are more successful when live daily!
What I Do When…
Next in my journey was to experiment with different oils and different solutions to see what worked FOR ME. Many protocols work for most people, but I gained enough confidence to experiment and tweak commonly used protocols and recommendations to find just the right combination for my specific situation. It’s like interviewing a skilled craftsman and hiring just the right one for the job at hand!
What follows is a list of essential oils I now employ frequently to provide effective solutions for each of these common experiences.
Ø …to support better sleep!
Along with 33% of Americans, I can sometimes have trouble falling asleep and/or staying asleep. Numerous studies have shown that aromatherapy with Lavender essential oil can help you sleep longer, decrease night waking, and reduce overall fatigue levels.
Terri’s Tip: Include Lavender essential oil in your bedtime routine to enjoy a good night’s sleep and wake up feeling refreshed.
Ø …to quiet the mind chatter and soothe anxious feelings!
When I climb into bed after a long day (finally!!), the difficulty isn’t that I am not tired; I am truly exhausted. The mind chatter is what keeps me from falling asleep. You know…all the buzz that’s going on in your head about what you did, what you wanted to do but didn’t get to, the dings of my phone constantly looking for my attention, people/situations that have captured my concern…that’s what keeps me awake. For this reason, I also include Frankincense essential oil as one of my sleep solutions! [This is also a great all-day-long tool for anxious or stressful moments!]
Ø …to support easy breathing and improved immunity!
Well, this common experience is right now, really common! My hero essential oils are Peppermint and Eucalyptus!
As soon as you open the bottle, you experience Peppermint’s ability to open the airways, energize the mind, and enliven the senses. You can enjoy these benefits right from the bottle, from the palm of your hand, and/or in your diffuser. A side benefit is how it’s high content of menthol cools the skin and helps promote digestive health! As we improve our digestive health, we also notice improved immune function.
Eucalyptus essential oil can also support feelings of easy breathing and has cooling properties like Peppermint. In addition. Eucalyptus has cleansing properties to protect against environmental and seasonal threats. It can also help create a calm atmosphere during stressful circumstances.
Ø …to ease temporary aches and pains!
For sure, no one is a stranger to aches and pains…and with a few surgeries and broken bones in recent years, I’ve seen my share too! And with that, I’ve used a few different blends of essential oils which have been very effective to ease my discomfort! Here’s my favorite one I call, Pain Pain Go Away Blend!
Combine equal amounts of Copaiba, Frankincense, Marjoram, and Lemongrass in a bottle. For topical use, dilute with fractionated coconut oil and apply to the affected area(s). For any area that is tender or if the skin is compromised, apply topically AROUND the area, not on it. For internal use, simply fill a veggie capsule or apply a few drops under the tongue as needed.
Ø …to ease digestive discomfort!
Let’s face it. An upset tummy can spoil an entire day and even cause me to rearrange my plans. When I’ve eaten something that doesn’t agree with me, boy does my tummy get my attention. Here are some great suggestions that work when I’m feeling bloated, gas pains, internal churning, going too much (or too little), or simply feeling like there’s a knot in my gut.
You can grab any of the spice oils to ease digestive discomfort, but my two hero oils for this are Ginger and Fennel essential oils. Apply one or both topically to the abdomen or the bottom of the feet; dilute for sensitive skin. These oils are approved for internal use so don’t hesitate to place a drop under your tongue for quick relief. For an aromatic solution, add a drop to a cup of tea or hot water!
