Three Ways to Use Oils
There are three ways we use essential oils. The first way is Aromatic. Inhaling essential oils is a simple, yet powerful way to enjoy its benefits. We use essential oils aromatically to open our airways, cleanse the air, and uplift our mood. Use a diffuser, breathe in a drop from your hands, or simply open the bottle and take a whiff!
The second way is Topical. This is a well-founded, well studied method of applying oils. Essential oils are easily absorbed into the skin and quickly get distributed throughout the body via the bloodstream. Using essential oils topically allows you to enjoy whole-body support while targeting specific areas of the body.
Why Take Essential Oils Internally?
Topical and Aromatic use offer great benefits and are the most common ways we use essential oils. However, we have the opportunity to unlock even more benefits when we choose to take them internally.
While many people may be initially hesitant to use this method, several clinical studies support the safety and effectiveness of ingesting essential oils. Many essential oils are sourced from plants which are regularly part of our diet, like spices, herbs, and fruits, so our bodies are already familiar with metabolizing them.
Research also shows that internal use offers unique effects that other methods do not. Here’s just a short list: Promote healthy cell function, provide antioxidant support, assist with healthy cardiovascular system function, maintain healthy immune function, and aid gut health*.
How to Use Essential Oils Internally
“When ingested, essential oils directly enter the blood stream via the gastrointestinal tract, where they are transported throughout the rest of the body. Essential oils are readily transported to all organs of the body, including the brain.” ~doterra.com/using-essential-oils
Make sure the essential oil is safe for internal use first, then try one of these methods:
Add a few drops to a glass of water
Take in a veggie capsule
Put a drop under your tongue
Use in recipes for cooking instead of dried herbs and spices
Terri’s Tip: Please remember to follow label recommendations and dosage guidelines.
